Bloggiesta Mini-Challenge

Google Alert Mini-Challenge

This mini-challenge is pretty simple. Using one of the tasks from the 31 Days to Building a Better Blog, we will be creating Google Alerts. I use Google Alerts frequently in my job to keep up on trends in the industry. I have to admit that I don't use them in blogging, but I definitely will be starting some! Head on over to ProBlogger and read the instructions on setting up a useful Google Alert.

When you are finished, post a comment in the comments section to win some fabulous prizes! Make sure you've been over to Maw Books Blog to sign up for the Bloggiesta! Ole!

I use google alerts already. I have two that I currently use, one for the url of my blog and one that's simply the blog's name. Very helpful!

I already use google alerts too - for the name of my blog, my url and my own name. We (Meredith and I) also have our personal blog listed in a similar way.

It's very useful and definitely worth the effort of setting it up.

I also use Google Alerts already, but I didn't know you could create Technorati watchlists, so now I've done that as well. Thanks for this mini-challenge!

Thanks Emily for this nice little challenge. Just updated my alerts to include not only blog address, but just the name as well.

DONE:
I already had a Google Alert for my URL, and I've now set one up for my blog name, with a comprehensive search.

I also added my full name, but only searching blogs-- there are too many people that share it for me to want to know every time it comes up.

STILL THINKING:

I feel like I'm suffering from a failure of imagination, but I can't imagine what other search terms I'd want Google mailing me about. Any suggestions?

Also, is there any advantage to adding Technorati as well as Google Alerts?

Thank you to Emily for hosting this challenge, and getting me thinking about this question again.

I'll ask this on the Blogging Tips group.

I already use Google Alert for MsBookish - URL and blog name. Plus my own name. But it's a great reminder for my food blog - haven't set up any Google Alerts for that yet!

Yup, I already have google alerts set up for my blog name and URL.

Just in blogs for my blog name and a comprehensive one for my URL.

(I nearly died the morning I woke up to an alert that Neil Gaiman was linking to my review of The Graveyard book!)

Well, I set one up for "Chronicle of an Infant Bibliophile" just now, but I already have alerts set up for my URL and "infant bibliophile," and they never result in any alerts at all. Even when I know my blog is mentioned on a popular blog. So I'm clearly doing something wrong!

Florinda said...

I've just set up alerts for my name (blogs only), blog name and URL (comprehensive). We'll see what comes of them. Thanks for the mini-challenge!

I already had general blog-name-type alerts, but I went through and added the names of authors I have upcoming Book Tour reviews to do on. (Wow, that was a poorly worded sentence.)
Anyway, great challenge. I hadn't thought to do things like that.

Great challenge. I already had a few google alerts set up, but decided to add a few more.

I already used Google Alerts for my name and my blogs, but to use it for gathering new ideas for posts regarding issues near and dear to my heart is a "D'OH" moment.

Ay yi yi. Will be going over to do one or two for censorship and banned books.

Thanks for the great idea!

Finally! I managed to do a mini challenge that involved technical computer stuff. I have created some alerts for my name and blog name and url. Thank you so much. I would never have known about this, or how to do it without your post.

This was a great mini-challenge! I already had one alert set-up, but I added 2 more and learned that I could set them up to appear as a feed in my google reader rather than reading them in daily emails.

Thanks for hosting this challenge :)

I have used Google Alerts for awhile, and so funny that I hadn't thought of alerting for my actual blog. It would be nice to know when I'm mentioned somewhere (BurtonReview) so I could thank those that did so.
so now I have 11 alerts for my moonpiece gmail account.

Kristi said...

I already had a Google alert for my blog name, but it never occurred to me to set one up for the URL. Thanks for that suggestion. I'll be curious to see what turns up.

Interesting. I've never used google alerts before. I set up 3 or 4 alerts... it will be interesting to see what it tells me.
